South Africa: high school pupils demand an hour-long break to smoke

High school learners at a school in KwaZulu-Natal are demanding an hour-long smoke break on a daily basis.

According to reports, pupils at Roseville Secondary School wants a designated smoking area on the school’s premises between eight and nine.

The pupils have reportedly already missed two exams while protesting over the bizarre demand.

KZN education spokesperson, Kwazi Mthethwa has responded to the demands and said that this will definitely not be allowed at the school.

“We want to state clearly that we stand firm against any use of drugs, be it alcohol or any substance that could be smoked.”

He went on to say, “we will not allow such in our schools.”
