Mourinho Has His Say On Egypt Defeat

Former Manchester United gaffer Jose Mourinho has commented on South Africas win against the Pharoah’s, which sent the Africa Cup of Nations hosts packing from the tournament.

The 56-year-old was working as an analyst during the game, and gave his views on South Africa’s 1-0 win over one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

“When you are in possession, you cannot keep on passing the ball backwards,” he said, as quoted by

“These are not (Javier) Aguirre’s instructions. This only shows the players’ mentality.

“South Africa were patient, disciplined and well-organized. On the other hand, Egypt were really disappointing.”

Pharaohs coach Aguirre has been sacked, while the president of the Egyptian Football Association Hani Abu Reidah announced his resignation in the aftermath of the game, sending shockwaves through Egypt.

Superstar Mohamed Salah was seen in tears after the game, and Mourinho said he believes the African Footballer of the Year was physically tired against Bafana.

“I watched the games in which Salah played last season. He is very tired, and that is normal after you play 60 games,” he added.

South Africa will now face Nigeria in the quarter-final on Wednesday with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs
