A police report claims that Venus Williams is responsible for a car accident which she was involved in earlier this month in Florida, which resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man. According to CNN a Palm Beach Police report, the accident happened on the June, 9 in Palm Beach Gardens, Jerome Barson the victim was a passenger in a car driven by his wife, Linda Barson. Linda Barson, according to the report, told police she was travelling west in the right lane and approaching an intersection, slowing for a traffic light. When the lights changed green Barson says, she drove through the intersection when Williams’ 2010 Toyota Sequoia cut across in front of her.
CNN further reports that Williams told police she stopped in the median of the intersection because of other traffic and did not see Barson’s car when she crossed the intersection. Williams was driving at an estimated speed of 5 mph. Jerome Barson died two weeks later due to multiple injuries, his wife was hospitalised but survived.
In a statement to CNN Williams’ attorney Malcolm Cunningham said: “Ms Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms Williams was travelling at 5 mph when Mrs Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms Williams with any citations or traffic violations. This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”
