The war against Boko Haram continues, some people have applauded the state for its efforts in combating this millitants, some are however not happy with the way in wich the Cameroon military is handling the crises, one of them being Amnesty international.
The human rights watch group condemned what it described as the Cameroon forces’ “horrific use of torture” against Boko Haramfighters, saying investigations reveal wide spread war crimes, human rights violations and the useof secret torture chambers.
According to a report published on Thursday, the Amnesty international says evidence show that Cameroon has about 20 detention centers wherein Boko Haram fighters where kept and tortured, some of them tortured to death.
Amnesty said, “We have repeatedly and unequivocally condemned the atrocities and war crimes committed by Boko Haram in Cameroon. But nothing could justify the callous and widespread practice of torture committed by the security forces against ordinary Cameroonians,” Amnesty International’s regional director for West and centralAfrica, Alioune Tine said. “These horrific violations amount to war crimes. Given the weight of the evidence we have uncovered, the authorities must initiate independent investigations into these practices of incommunicado detention and torture, including potential individual and command responsibility.”
