Camair-co’s staff get angry over salary cuts


Staff of camair-co airline gets angry over a reduction of their salaries by the general manager Ernest Dikoum. 

While normal companies are promoting their staff and increasing their salaries along side with their benefits, the Cameroonian international airline Camair-co does the reverse due to financial autonomy, says the CEO. 

The letter of the General director of the Cameroon Airlines Corporation (Camair-Co) dates from June 6, 2017. But it was only made public on Friday, July 07, after a board of directors meeting was held in Douala.

 For reasons of competitiveness, and when Cameroon has just embarked on a new program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Camair-Co is supposed to count on the resources generated internally. This is what can be taken from Ernest Dikoum’s letter, which was released last weekend, and which informs the staff of Camair-Co that the next few days will be hard for some of them.

 “We are obliged now to make adjustments on all the posts that weigh illegally and abnormally on the finances of the company,” he writes to the staff. 

This means that the salaries and benefits that many of the staff will receive will be reduced. This creates a real panic within the company. 

 According to the CEO of Camair-Co, “recent and consistent reports of control structures (internal and external) reveal very serious shortcomings in the management and operation of the company and calls for immediate corrections.” he argues, inviting employees to a change of mentality essential for the survival of the company. 

The measure in question will affect the living conditions of the staff. 

“This measure will have an immediate impact on those employees whose remuneration is out of step with the company’s organizational standards, those who receive non-due income, those who for various reasons benefit from abnormal benefits in society. Individual correspondence will be sent to those concerned for this purpose, “he said.
