HomeNewsAHMAD AHMAD MAINTAINS HIS THREATS ON THE CANCELATION OF AFCON 2019 IN CAMEROON.
The President of the African Football Confederation Ahmad Ahmad was both reassuring and threatening about the organization of the AFCON- 2019 by Cameroon, Tuesday in Abidjan, adding that he would not retreat on the enlargement to 24 participants.
“If the host country cannot organize it, we will find a country that will organize it,” he said without citing Cameroon, but insisting that he would not go back, pointing out that the transition from 16 to 24 would avoid the frequent absence of some large countries.
When asked about the subject, he said: “As for Cameroon 2019, I can not anticipate, but all the authorities of the country to the top of the state have always confirmed that they would be ready.”
“We sent specifications (…) At the D-day, we will see the reports of the independent cabinet (…) that will allow us to say plus Cameroon will be ready or will not be ready. Plus We will not negotiate anything “he continued, however.
In early August, Ahmad Ahmad had judged that Cameroon was “not ready”, sparking a controversy over a possible reallocation of the CAN, while Cameroon had obtained the organization on a specification to 16 teams. The switch to 24 was recommended in July 2017 at a symposium.
