Issa Tchiroma is clearly not happy with the existence of the “SCBC” Channel.
The Minister of Communication has openly banned a certain television channel called Southern Cameroons Broadcasting Corporation, SCBC from streaming within Cameroon.
Issa Tchiroma Bakary who also doubles as government spokesman made the declaration during a press conference on state broadcaster CRTV, Monday August 28, 2017.
He reiterated that the channel abbreviated “SCBC” was simply a non event, saying that no one watches or even know such a channel even exist in Cameroon.
Political pundits thinks reasons why Communication has banned the Channel is because the channel might have gotten the interest of nearly 60% of both English and French speaking Cameroonians. While others thinks the birth of the Channel made CRTV unpopular as the viewing rate dropped to 76% in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon.
Another political pundit have it that the channel is just promoting hateful and bias messages against Cameroon and should really be prevented or even stopped from streaming in Cameroon. Adding that the television channel is bent in bringing down the image of Cameroon with false and misleading informations since its creation early this 2017.
Late last year, the President of the National Communication Council, Peter Esoka met with some Journalists and cable distribution agents in Bamenda, where he cautioned them on the risks involved in distributing the channel to their clients and explained that sanctions awaits journalists who get unverified informations and spreading from the SCBC Channel broadcasting from South Africa.
The NCC president charged with the regulation of the media landscape in Cameroon reiterated that the said channel is illegal and defaulters will face the arm of the law.
